The American White Oak is the state tree of 3 U.S states – Conneticut, Illinois and Maryland. It has proven to be unaffected by liquids, a hard resilient wood, which has been a primary reason for it to be used for building ships and barrels. In relation to furniture making and domestic use, the White Oak is a favourite for flooring, cabinets and dining suites. In appearance it is usually straight grained and coarser in texture than other members of the Oak family.
